This painting holds a special place in my heart. It features two Bird of Paradise flowers, painted in watercolor on a soft, blended background of pale blue and gentle purple. The colors flow quietly, creating a serene and delicate feeling—calm yet full of vibrant life.
This was created while thinking about someone who deeply impacted my journey. I painted it as a gift for a dear mentor—someone who believed in me, supported me, and showed true kindness. He loved Birds of Paradise, and as I painted, I thought of the many ways he helped me grow. It felt only natural to gift it to him, though I’m grateful he allowed me to keep it in my archive. 
The inspiration came from a day at Volcano National Park, where I saw a bush of Bird of Paradise flowers and captured a photo that stayed with me. The two blooms in this piece reflect that moment—and also something more personal: a quiet conversation between gratitude and beauty. 
The stems blend the unique colors of the flower—pink, yellow, and deep green fading into light green—mirroring both nature’s palette and the harmony of feeling and memory. “For a Mentor” is about connection, appreciation, and the gentle strength that lives in both flowers and people who help us to blossom.
