This painting is my way of holding on to a few unforgettable moments in Hawai‘i.
One was in a Hilo park, where the morning sun lit up a red ginger flower until it seemed to glow from within. Another was in a friend’s garden, where Heliconias hung in the breeze, bright and full of life. I couldn’t let either memory go, so I brought them together here — layered like memories, in colors that feel bold, joyful, and alive.

The background blends deep ocean teal into rich ultramarine, with a soft light breaking through the center. Around it, banana leaves and tropical greens wrap around the flowers, grounding their warmth and letting them shine. It’s not meant to be a perfect snapshot of a real place, but a feeling — the mix of joy, calm, and connection I get from the islands.I was in a good mood while painting it. A little nervous at times, but mostly excited — and that energy is in every brushstroke. My hope is that when you see it on your wall, it gives you the same spark of happiness and that sense of Hawai‘i’s wild, welcoming beauty.
